KNOWLEDGE Musona says he will not guarantee goals at Scottland but is ready to see off the twilight of his career with rewards at the title chasing Mabvuku-based side.
He was speaking at his unveiling at Rufaro yesterday, during the half-time of the match between Scottland and Yadah.
If Musona goes on to make an appearance for the ambitious Scottland, it will be the first time that he has played for a local team in the Premiership.
The striker, 35, who recently came back from Warriors retirement, was nurtured at Aces academy and played in division one before making a move to South African giants Kaizer Chiefs.
His career now seems to have come full circle, as he looks to bring the curtains down by winning titles on the domestic scene.
“I want to say thank you to Scottland for this opportunity they gave me to come back home and finish my last years, enjoying football in Zimbabwe. So, I can’t wait to start playing in my home country,” he said.
Musona is ready to don the Scottland shirt as the side prepare for a tough journey to Mandava this week to face title rivals FC Platinum.
Musona said he would not promise an immediate impact.
“In football you cannot predict but action speaks louder. I promise that I am going to do my best and I am here to help the team win games and to score and to assist. I am not sure if I will score in the first game but I will make sure that this team wins as many games as possible.” Musona, who will wear the shirt number 8, joins an array of other stars including Khama Billiat, Walter Musona and Terrence Dzvukamanja among others.
He is returning home following a professional football career that took him to South Africa, Germany, Belgium and Saudi Arabia in the last 16 years.
Musona’s previous stint was with Saudi side Al-Okhdood.
He becomes the latest signing this window, following the arrival of Dzvukamanja, Namibian Moses Shidolo and Malawian Khuda Myaba. The Mabvuku side is also linked with Highlanders sensational winger Mafious Chihweta. Scottland, who are firmly back on course in the title race, will be hoping that Musona is ready and cleared ahead of their clash against FC Platinum at Mandava this weekend.
Norman Mapeza’s charges have now become the biggest threat in the title race in the past weeks. Scottland coach Tonderai Ndiraya was delighted about the Warriors striker signing for them. He believes he can add something special to the team.
“He has not played at home at all . . . he never played. He has decided to finish his career here. His history is well documented.
“He still has the legs . . . He has given the country so much. We are all excited for the captain to come back home.
“It’s an opportunity for the fans to watch Knowledge and give him all his flowers he deserves,” said Ndiraya.
Musona has led the Warriors in numerous battles including helping the team qualify for three AFCON finals in 2017, 2019 and 2021.
“He is probably one of the most decorated players for the Warriors, for our national team. We are so excited as a team. I’m very excited as a coach because in terms of leadership, you know that you don’t have much work.
“But Knowledge will be there to guide all the youngsters with all the experience that he has,” Ndiraya added.
