JACQUE Mgido, the celebrity make-up artist, says legendary rapper Snoop Dogg is interested in coming to Zimbabwe but she cannot put a time frame as to when that could happen.

Jackie set social media on fire when she shared a video of her meeting with Snoop Dogg.

In the short clip, Jackie can be seen inviting the hip-hop icon to visit Zimbabwe while Snoop Dogg flashes his famous grin and nods enthusiastically. “I told him, ‘You’ve got to come to Zimbabwe — they love you there’ and he just laughed and said, ‘For real? I gotta make that happen,’” Jackie said.“It was such a surreal moment. We were reminiscing like old friends, and the next thing the whole internet was talking about it.”

According to Jacque, the ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ hit-maker was genuinely excited about the idea of visiting Zimbabwe. “Snoop said he’s definitely keen to visit Zimbabwe, though he didn’t give a date,” she said.

“He told me, ‘when the time’s right, we’ll do it — I haven’t forgotten Zimbabwe.’ “You could see he meant it. That moment was special because it wasn’t just talk, it was real connection.”What many fans didn’t realise was that this wasn’t a random celebrity encounter.

It was a reunion that was two decades in the making.

Jacque, now a respected Hollywood artist and founder of Vault Cosmetics, first worked with Snoop Dogg 21 years ago on his early film projects.

“The very first time I worked with him was twenty one years back,” she said. “We were both younger, both figuring things out. I was just starting my career and he was transitioning into acting. You never think someone like Snoop will remember you after all those years — but he did.”

The pair met again recently on a major NBC television production, although Jackie can’t reveal its title due to strict studio contracts.

“We signed all these confidentiality forms,” she joked.

“If I mention the name, I’ll be sued for thousands of dollars — so let’s just say it’s big!”

When Snoop Dogg arrived on the set, the plan wasn’t even for him to wear make-up, but fate had other ideas. “He didn’t want any make-up but I was there working on others in the scene,” she said.

“Then, his manager turned to him and said, ‘Do you remember Jacque?’ He looked at me for a few seconds, then smiled and said, ‘Zimbabwe!’

“I nearly cried. It was like time stopped.”

From there, the two spent the day catching up and laughing about their early collaborations — including Boss’n Up and a film Snoop did with Wiz Khalifa.

“We laughed so much,” Jacque said.

“I even told him I couldn’t tell my parents about those movies because one was about pimps and the other about weed. He thought that was hilarious.”

But behind the humour lay something deeper. Jacque recalled that Snoop Dogg’s manager told her a touching detail that his late mother once did missionary work in Zimbabwe during the 1980s and asked for her ashes to be scattered there.

“That hit me hard,” Jacque said. “It suddenly made sense why Snoop was so emotional when we started talking about Zimbabwe.

“It wasn’t a coincidence.”

Jacque says the reunion reminded her of how far she’s come and how proudly she carries her Zimbabwean identity in Hollywood.

“From day one, I’ve always introduced myself as a Zimbabwean, I never hide it,” she said.

“And Snoop remembered that. That’s why when we met again, the first word he said was ‘Zimbabwe.’

“It gave me goosebumps.”

As for whether the West Coast legend will touch down in Harare any time soon, Jacque keeps the hope alive.

“He said he’s game, whether it’s for a chill vacation, a meet-and-greet, or just to experience our culture.

“I think he’ll come.”

The viral video might have lasted just a few seconds, but for Zimbabweans everywhere, it carried a lifetime’s worth of pride.

It’s proof that even in Hollywood, Zimbabwe never fades from the memory.
