IT was so near yet so far for Zimbabwe’s golden boy on the greens!

Keegan Shutt fell agonisingly short at the 2025 First Capital Bank Zimbabwe Junior Open, losing by just one miserable shot to South Africa’s Andries van der Vyver at Borrowdale Brooke Golf Estate.

After three rounds of sizzling golf, Shutt’s final-round five-under-par 67 wasn’t enough to snatch the crown, finishing 10-under overall — heartbreakingly behind Van der Vyver’s 11-under.

Shutt had shown early promise, firing a two-under 70 on day one and a three-under 69 in round two, tying for the lead with Craig Cilliers. Going into the final day, Shutt looked poised to make the title his… until Van der Vyver unleashed a monster nine-under-par 63 to steal it!

Meanwhile, in the girls’ division, South Africa’s Lourenda Steyn crushed the competition, winning by eight shots after carding a classy four-under 212, leaving Zimbabwe’s Zoey Rhoda and others chasing shadows.

The tournament, buzzing with young talent from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malawi, China, Zambia, and France, proved one thing — the future of golf is sizzling!

Boys’ Top 3:
🥇 Van der Vyver (-11)
🥈 Shutt (-10)
🥉 Cilliers (-7)
Girls’ Champ:
🏆 Lourenda Steyn (-4)
