SO near yet so far!
That is the story of Bulawayo based female bodybuilder Kylie MacDonald who came out fourth at the recently held International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness Summer Superbodies in Krugersdorp, South Africa.
Her target was to finish in the top three.
Summer Superbodies is an IFBB/BBSA sanctioned event and an Arnold Classic Africa qualifier.
It was reportedly founded with the objective of inspiring people into being in shape for summer by building healthy habits and giving the everyday hero a goal to work towards.
Last year, MacDonald (27), did well at the Ultimate Nabba/WFF South African Championships in Pretoria where she clinched the Bikini Model and went on to scoop the overall Bikini title, a huge achievement for someone who was debuting in her rather promising career.
MacDonald finished fourth in this year’s bikini fitness up to 166 centimetres division.
Her achievement saw her receiving a certificate and a medal.
The 28-year-old did well to make it to the top six in a category, which had a line-up of 15 bodybuilders.
South African, Shinaide van der Nest, won the bikini fitness up to 166cm and went on to bag the bikini fitness overall title when she came up against other division winners.
It was MacDonald’s first time competing in an IFBB event in South Africa. She was nervous after seeing that her fellow competitors were in great shape, but that did not prevent her from doing what she knows best.
“I had such a great experience at the IFBB Summer Superbodies. I met so many beautiful, fit and friendly ladies; it was such a pleasure being on stage with such great competition, considering that I have never been on stage with such great physiques. I felt a bit intimidated, but that didn’t stop me from doing my best and showing off my hard work. I came out fourth but my target was to finish in the top three,” MacDonald said.
She added: “It was my first-time taking part in an IFBB competition and I was actually overwhelmed with my condition considering gyms have been closed for some months now,” she said.
Most of the shows she was meant to take part in this year were called off due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, which saw travelling being restricted as most countries went on lockdown.
MacDonald’s coach Simon Gama, who travelled with her to South Africa, was excited with her fourth-place finish. Gama has been training MacDonald for four months, preparing her for her first and only competition in 2020.
By finishing in the top six at the IFBB Summer Superbodies, MacDonald has automatically qualified for the Arnold Classic Africa to be held in South Africa in May next year.
