ZENZO Ndlovu, the man behind Soccer4Life, has spent 23 years building more than just football teams. His non-profit organisation, rooted in sport and faith, continues to touch communities across Zimbabwe, using the game as a weapon against drugs, despair, and low self esteem.

What began with a single team five years ago has now grown into 23, with thousands of children benefitting from its programmes. Soccer4Life works with 90 coaches and dozens of clubs, combining football training with lessons on healthy living, discipline, and spiritual growth.

“Our vision has always been to use football as a platform to teach Christ,” said Ndlovu. “Over the years we have had different themes, and this year’s focus is on overcoming low self esteem and discovering your true identity in Christ.”

The organisation recently held clinics to train coaches in the Soccer4Life approach, ensuring they are equipped to guide young players in their communities. Beyond the pitch, the project brings in hundreds of pieces of sportswear, equipment, and balls for distribution, with teams from Bulawayo and Tsholotsho among the beneficiaries.

Ndlovu believes that the programme’s longevity rests on its clear purpose. “Understanding the vision, the purpose, and the strong conviction that children need this has kept the organisation going for 23 years,” he said.

To keep children motivated, Soccer4Life runs a reward system. Ndlovu brings in thousands of soccer items, boots, socks, shin pads and more that are handed out during question and answer sessions at events. “Any kid who participates in the question and answer will be given a reward, and now the engagement and participation is there. That’s what we are looking for,” he explained.

The initiative has given children not only sporting opportunities but also platforms to share testimonies of how the programme has changed their lives. Ndlovu says the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, proof that his blend of football and faith continues to make an impact.

In his words, Soccer4Life is more than a game. It is football, faith, and a future rolled into one.
