THE Mbada Diamonds Cup organising committee chairman Tafadzwa Chiremba has described the just- ended Soccerex African Forum as an eye-opener for those in football management.Chiremba, a journalist by profession, took charge of the country’s biggest soccer tournament three weeks ago. He believes he is still on a learning curve and the Durban workshop could not have come at a better time.

“It was an eye-opener. I learnt a lot from some of the game’s biggest names. I found the bit on Media Management in Football appropriate to our involvement in harnessing the diamonds for the people. Without the media what we are doing would not be known by the people.

“It is healthy that we have an open door policy with the media and also clubs do the same so that previews, match reports and reviews are exciting to bring more people to football which is what we want to see happening.

“I am sure our dealings with the media will be better though I believe to date we have done well and we enjoy good rapport deserving a big tournament like the one we are sponsoring,” said Chiremba on the sidelines of one of the networking sessions.

He was full of praise for the PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele who attended the two-day workshop.
“See he is here to learn with others. What they have learnt here will go a long way in turning around our game for the better which is what we want for the future of the game,” said Chiremba.

He said he was happy that he managed to interact with a lot of people who gave him invaluable information to retain the Mbada Cup as the most prestigious in the country.

“From what we have learnt and gained from interaction with others, I have no doubt the Mbada Cup will stay the premier event on our football calendar and our challenge is to see more people filling our stadia,” said the Mbada Cup chairman.

Chiremba attended many seminars like the Fans – Supporting the Club and the Revenue Stream, Regional Development Seminar, Building Africa’s Football Future, Sport and Government, Broadcasting Africa’s Game and Programme Delivery.

He said this gave him an insight into how to improve management of the game.
