A SOLDIER demanded a paternity test after being hauled to court by his ex-wife for maintenance.
Delay Chigunduru said he wanted a DNA test to ascertain the paternity of the child his ex-wife, Cleopatra Muremi, was demanding an upward variation for in maintenance.
Cleopatra wanted the court to grant her US$100, up from $45 000.
Chigunduru told the court that the amount was too much for him.
He was keeping the child with Cleopatra a secret and when his current wife found out, she drank poison.
“I remarried and have three other kids.
“I am offering $55 000 for now until I get my house in order.
“I need the scan which I paid for, but she refuses to give me because I want to see the time of gestation.
“These two are twins and were born prematurely, but she keeps putting pressure on me to come here instead of looking for money because she wants an increment.”
Magistrate Mashavira told Chigunduru that Cleopatra could bring him to court whenever she wanted concerning the upkeep of the kids
“You work for the ZNA, and if you have a salary increment it’s a public secret, so it’s her right to be here,” said magistrate Mashavira.
Cleopatra told the court that she wasn’t opposed to DNA tests, but Chingunduru had lied about his US dollar salary.
“He earns US$250 yet he is offering peanuts.
“Last year we were here and were given up to September for DNA tests, but he never did anything up to now.
“Our child is now one-year-old and needs a birth certificate,” she said.
Magistrate Mashavira ordered Chigunduru to pay $60 000 and the DNA application was left open until they find the money to pay for tests.
