A 37-year-old soldier allegedly connived with a primary school teacher and held a Borrowdale family hostage before stealing property and mobile phones at gunpoint.

Tonderai Mudiwakure of Zimbabwe National Army (Defence College) and Washington Murasiranwa of Masikana Primary School in Marondera, appeared in court yesterday facing robbery charges.

They were denied bail by magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe who advised them to seek freedom from the High Court.

They were remanded to June 23.

Prosecutor Mrs Idah Maromo opposed bail arguing that guns used in committing the offence were yet to be recovered.

“The accused are facing a very serious offence and there is overwhelming evidence. If convicted the pair is likely to face a lengthy sentence.”

Mrs Maromo alleged that on April 29 this year, Mudiwakure and Murasiranwa connived to steal.

They wore masks and armed themselves with pistols.

They proceeded to number 4 Oakland Road, Greystone Park in Borrowdale.

They allegedly broke down the kitchen door and gained entry into the house.

The pair held their victims hostage and stole three laptops, a 42-inch Samsung television, a Nokia Lumia 510, Samsung S4 Galaxy, two Samsung S5 Galaxy, Samsung Tab 3, LG mobile phone, Huawei cellphone, Africom mobile phone, two black satchels, Lacoste perfumes and $130.

Cops recovered a Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Tab 3 when they arrested the pair. The stolen property was valued at $5 659.
