Solusi University has been granted a campus radio broadcasting licence by the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ), becoming the latest higher learning institution to join the broadcasting space.
The 10-year licence, number CRBS/0002 which took effect on August 1, 2025, will allow the Seventh-Day Adventist-run institution to operate its own campus radio station.
In a notice, BAZ said: “The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe, in the exercise of the powers conferred upon it in terms of Section 10 of the Broadcasting Services Act [Chapter 12:06], hereby grants to Solusi University this licence for the term of (10) years and subject to the terms and conditions set out in the schedule, to provide a Campus Radio Broadcasting Service in Zimbabwe.”
According to the Broadcasting Services Act, a campus radio service is defined as a radio station run and owned by a college, university or other educational institution, with programming produced exclusively by students or the surrounding community.
The broadcasts mainly focus on educational content and provide practical training for students in media and broadcasting studies.
Great Zimbabwe University was the first local university to be awarded a radio broadcasting licence.
Since then, several institutions have followed suit, including the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Lupane State University (LSU), Midlands State University (MSU) and Harare Polytechnic College.
The move is expected to expand opportunities for students at Solusi University to gain hands-on broadcasting experience while strengthening the institution’s role as a hub for media training and community engagement.
