Son steals from mom

A PENHALONGA man who stole his aging mother’s ATM card and withdrew money from her CABS savings account was this week arraigned before the courts.Victor Mavhurungwe (20) pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Tracy Muzondo.

Mr Fletcher Karombe represented the State.

Mavhurungwe allegedly withdrew $200 from his mother – Annie Taengwa (58)’s – account after he stole her ATM card.

He will be sentenced today (Friday).

The court heard that he stole the ATM card on July 3.

“On July 15,  Mavhurungwe who had Taengwa’s Personal Identification Number(PIN) proceeded to Mutare CABS branch and withdrew the said amount and went on a drinking spree,” said Mr Karombe.

On July 18, the complainant discovered that her money had been withdrawn from the bank and informed police at Manica Bridge Police Base.

Investigations were conducted leading to Mavhurungwe’s arrest. Mavhurungwe admitted to the crime.

Only $50 was recovered.
