Son strikes dad with axe twice

The police spokesman for Matabeleland South Province Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe, confirmed the incident yesterday.
He said Mehluli Moyo was being charged with attempted murder.
He said the victim, Manyaka Moyo, had since been taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals where his condition was reported to be critical.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the two had been drinking beer together at a local business centre. They then decided to go home around 7pm and along the way, the two who were both drunk, had a misunderstanding over an unknown subject.
“As the argument got to the boiling point, the son (Mehluli) who had been carrying an axe struck his father twice in the head. He left his father lying unconscious and informed his mother who then carried him to their homestead.
“The matter was reported to police leading to the suspect’s arrest and the complainant who sustained two deep cuts on the head was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals for treatment.
“His condition is reported to be critical. We have since charged Mehluli with attempted murder and he is currently assisting us with investigations.
“He will soon appear in court.
“As police we want to urge people to desist from moving around with dangerous weapons especially when they go for drinking escapades. We will continue to urge them to employ the services of a third party rather than resorting to violence,” he said.
