South Africa’s Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber, and Border Management Authority (BMA) Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato are set to visit the Beitbridge border post next Monday to assess preparedness for the upcoming Easter travel rush.

The visit, confirmed by BMA Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Communications and Marketing Mmemme Mogotsi, forms part of efforts to ensure smooth operations during one of the busiest travel periods.

“The oversight aims to assess operational readiness, evaluate systems and personnel deployment, and ensure measures are in place to facilitate efficient movement of travellers while maintaining border security,” she said.

During the visit, the Minister and the Commissioner will also conduct patrols along the borderline to test deployed equipment.

Beitbridge, which links South Africa, Zimbabwe and several other countries, is the region’s busiest land border post, handling an average of 20 000 travellers daily during peak periods and around 12 000 during off-peak times.
