South African College whip Churchill

SACS flyhalf, Christopher Smith, was the destroyer-in-chief with 10 tries, seven conversions and a penalty.
Smith struck a penalty in the fifth minute of the game before plating a try in the 18th minute.
By half-time the visitors led 35-5.

In the second half, the South Africans became casual in their defence and left gaps for Churchill to exploit.
Mkululi Ndhlela scored two tries and Itayi Nyakambaza converted.
But the South Africans turned on the power in the final stages of the game and Dean Basson, Gino Lupini and Cameron Calder all touched down.

Basson said the game was very interesting and physical.
“The game was very interesting but more physical, It was competitive and we made some mistakes in our defence,” said Basson.

“We did a lot of running and I liked that, Churchill had a good team though they could not beat us as it was a tough match.”
The other players who were outstanding for the South Africans were Andrew Edward, Adam De Carvalho, Joel Macquene, Phillip Ackermann and Fabio Brogneri.

Graeme Wepener, the visitors’ coach, hailed his team’s show.
Churchill try scorer, Ndhlela, banked his team to do better.

“We made a number of mistakes especially in the second half that is why we lost. It was a good game but very physical and hopefully we will be able to match the South African teams.”
