Workers at a local hostel were left shocked after their client was found dead in one of the rooms.
It is said the deceased, Jokobina Nyoni, who was from South Africa booked two nights at Y.W.C.A hostel which is situated at corner 9th Avenue and Lobengula Street.
Last week on Friday Nyoni was supposed to check out but she did not do so, as a result the matron Simeleni Dube got worried and sent her subordinate Sibongile Macheka to find out why she had not checked out but she found the door locked and the key still stuck in the keyhole.
She knocked several times but there was no response. One of the workers who preferred anonymity as she was not cleared to talk to the media said they had to shake the door and the key fell. They used a spare key to open the door.
Dube told sources close to investigations that they found the deceased lying on the floor half naked and dead.
“Last week on Friday at around 10am I got worried after realising that the deceased had not checked out. I then summoned Sibongile Macheka who found the door locked and the key was in the keyhole. She then informed me. We had to shake the door. Fortunately the key fell and we used the spare key to open the door,” she said.
She went on: “We found her dead half naked body lying on the floor. I then reported the matter to police.”
It was recorded under case number IR11823/ 18.
Bulawayo police deputy spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the case of “sudden death” at the hostel.
