THE Southern Region Division One Soccer League returns with a packed Matchday nine programme this weekend before teams quickly switch focus to another demanding round of midweek fixtures scheduled for Wednesday, May 20.

With the race for points beginning to intensify, clubs face a crucial period that could shape the direction of their campaigns as the league calendar gathers momentum.

Saturday’s action opens with Aqua Stars taking on Bosso90 at Chiefs Village in the early kick-off before Bulawayo Warriors host Talen Vision at the same venue later in the day.

At White City Stadium, Bulawayo City will attempt to halt Zebra Revolution’s progress in the lunchtime encounter while Njube Spurs square off against Mosi Rovers in another potentially explosive fixture. Zimbabwe Saints will welcome Casmyn at Luveve B Arena in one of the standout clashes of the weekend, with Saints hoping to maintain consistency against a Casmyn side eager to climb the standings. Jordan face Imbizo in Filabusi while Hwange entertain Megawatt in a fixture that could prove decisive for both clubs’ ambitions this season. Khami United and Blackrock will complete Saturday’s programme with a clash set for Khami.

The weekend fixtures conclude on Sunday when Victoria Falls Herentals host Nkayi United at Chinotimba Stadium in what promises to be another tightly contested encounter.

However, teams will have little time to recover as the league resumes just three days later with a full slate of midweek fixtures.

Nkayi United will return to action against Njube Spurs at Chiefs Village while Talen Vision host Zimbabwe Saints in another headline fixture. Imbizo will battle Victoria Falls Herentals at Llewelin as Zebra Revolution take on Jordan at White City.

Elsewhere, Mosi Rovers will welcome Bulawayo City at Chinotimba, Casmyn host Bulawayo Warriors at Turk Mine and Blackrock square off against Aqua Stars at Chakona.

The demanding schedule is expected to test squad depth and consistency as clubs navigate two important rounds of fixtures within five days.

With the league entering a decisive phase, supporters can expect fierce competition across all venues as teams push to strengthen their positions on the Southern Region log.-@FungaiMuderere
