SPEAKER of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda is set to leave for Japan today where he is expected to meet officials from that country’s government and the private sector.
This was confirmed by Japanese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Shinichi Yamanaka, after he paid a courtesy call on Adv Mudenda at his office at the new Parliament Building in Mt Hampden.
“It was my great honour to meet the Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda before his visit to Japan. He is going to Japan for the first time following the visit by His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa in July and August for the Zimbabwe National Day at the Osaka Expo and Tokyo International Conference for Africa’s Development (TICAD 9).
“It is my hope that these high-level visits will see the expansion and strengthening of the bilateral relations between Japan and Zimbabwe,” he said. “He is going to have a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Japan (Nukaga Furushiko) Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the private sector.
This will strengthen relations between the two countries and boost Parliamentary exchanges,” Ambassador Shinichi said.
In July, President Mnangagwa undertook a five-day working visit to Japan, during which he headlined Zimbabwe’s National Day at the World Expo 2025 and led several high-level engagements aimed at deepening bilateral ties and attracting investment.
The President’s visit centred on promoting Zimbabwe as an investment destination and strengthening diplomatic and economic cooperation with Japan.
He led the Zimbabwean delegation at the inaugural Zimbabwe-Japan Business Forum, where three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed in sectors such as tourism, mining and manufacturing.
