The Special Advisor to the President, Joram Gumbo, arrived on Wednesday afternoon at the construction site of the new US$200 000 Globe and Phoenix Primary School in Kwekwe.

The Minister, who is accompanied by the Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Dr Edgar Seenza, is now touring the site to see the progress made so far.

The original Globe and Phoenix Primary School, built in 1925, collapsed due to illegal mining activities, following which pupils were housed at the nearby Sally Mugabe Primary School in tents.

The school is supposed to open for the third term.

The project is situated adjacent to Globe and Phoenix Secondary School, and already nine double-classroom blocks and a staff room have been completed.

As the project nears completion, pupils are set to relocate to the new site when schools resume next term, bringing an end to their temporary accommodation in tents.

Water has already been connected to the site.
