THE power of sport will be exhibited in Kwekwe next Sunday when an athletics event will be used to champion the ‘Save the Black Rhino Campaign.’

In a powerful blend of sport and conservation, the Midlands Black Rhinos Conservancy (MBRC), in partnership with the Kwekwe Runners Club, is set to play host to a special Awareness Marathon next Sunday.

The event aims at raising awareness for the protection of the endangered black rhino species.

Running under the theme “Run the Mile, Save a Rhino”, the event aligns with this year’s World Rhino Day commemorations, themed “Rhinos Revolution”, which seeks to highlight global efforts to save the five remaining rhino species from extinction due to poaching and habitat loss.

Event spokesperson Michael Magoronga confirmed that the marathon trail will feature 5km, 10km, and 21.1km race categories, covering a scenic stretch from Muwandi Shopping Centre to the SCEC Centre, the heart of the conservancy.
