FIVE armed robbers raided St Joseph’s secondary and primary schools in Rusape last Sunday night and made good their escape with $4 000.The incident occurred at around 12-midnight after the robbers pounced on a security guard.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, said that they were still investigating the case.
“Investigations are in progress. Five unknown male adults went to the schools and produced a pistol and pointed it at Trymore Nzanza, a security guard at St Joseph’s Secondary School at around 12-midnight. They ordered Nzanza to lie down while they broke the screen door and window at the administration block using an iron bar. They gained entry and proceeded to the headmaster’s office where they stole $90 from a locked cabinet,” he said.
Insp Kakohwa said the robbers force-marched Nzanza to St Joseph’s Primary School where they broke into the administration block again.
He said: “They broke into the administration block and proceeded to the headmaster’s office where they stole $3 918 from a drawer. During the process, they were spotted by Lovemore Chinyerere who is a security guard at St Joseph’s Primary School. He informed the headmaster, Mr Joseph Nyakunhuwa and when they rushed to the office, the robbers had fled from the scene. We are appealing to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the suspects to contact their nearest police station.
“We also encourage the school authorities to bank their money soon after collection.”
