MUTASA District’s St Mathias Tsonzo will be Manicaland Province’s representatives in the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) Under-17 football finals for the first time in the history of the Anglican Church-run institution.

The nationals are taking place at Chinhoyi High School next Wednesday.

St Mathias Tsonzo earned the right to represent the province after outplaying opponents in the provincial finals that were played at Chibuwe High School in Chipinge District last Friday.

The provincial champions beat Mutare’s Nyamauru High School in the final encounter of the qualifiers.

The road to the finals was sweet for the provincial champions after managing to beat last year’s champions, Mt Carmel in the semi-finals.

Mastermind of the St Mathias Tsonzo success story, coach, Ngonidzashe Ndoro, who is being assisted by Courage Mudzipurwa, said: “This is something that we worked hard to achieve as a team.

“We are thankful to the school head, Mathias Mutumwa, the responsible authority represented by principal, Loveshaw Mponde, and all the stakeholders that supported the team from the district finals up to where we are now. We promise to give it our best shot and make Manicaland proud.”

Ndoro holds a Level One coaching certificate and another certificate in grassroots soccer coaching.
