SIX football and five netball sides will converge at Gonde Primary School in Khuphula Village, Bulilima District, to compete in a two-day Kudzanani end of year tournament that starts this morning.

Zuzaphi, Muke, Khame, Tsukuru and Redbulls Gonde will field football and netball teams while Toobs from Harare will join the five local teams in the football event.

Winners of the football competition will walk away with R4 500 and a kit while the losing finalists will pocket R3 300 and two match balls.

Those finishing on third, fourth, fifth and sixth positions will each get R1 800, R 1 100, R800 and R500 respectively.

The competition, is being bankrolled by Mbonisi Sibanda, who is giving back to Gonde Primary where he did his Grade One in 1984 before moving to Zengeza in Chitungwiza to complete his primary school.

Sibanda, a technician who set up TOOBS Engineering, a company that specialises in fuel tanks, tanks installation, pump installation, maintenance, repairs and calibration, said: “As we come to the end of the year, there’s no better way to give back to the community than involving them in something that they love like football and netball competitions. We are looking forward to an exciting two-day tournament.

“Besides prizes for the teams competing, I’ll also donate uniforms and soccer balls to the school (Gonde) where I did my Grade One in 1984. The Harare team (Toobs) has also said it will donate its prize money to the school.”

The former Highlanders’ trio of Joel Luphahla, Thomas Sweswe and Munyaradzi Diya are among football personalities expected to grace the tournament. – @ZililoR
