StarFM thrills Bulawayo

STAR FM has been applauded by listeners for broadcasting live from Bulawayo for the second week running as the 3 to 6 Express took over from the Breakfast Club yesterday.

The show, hosted by Phathisani “Mkwasha Mboko” Sibanda and Kudzai Violet Gwara “KVG” – saw hundreds of people gather to catch a glimpse of the live broadcast at Bulawayo Centre.

Today the show will broadcast live from Entumbane Shopping Centre between 3PM and 6PM.

Sidney Moyo of Emganwini suburb, who was part of the crowd that had gathered at Bulawayo Centre, welcomed the move saying the radio station did well by coming down to the City of Kings.

“This is very good for Bulawayo because we were thinking that we’d been forgotten but that seems not to be the case. Umthwakazi is the home of arts in the country and it only makes sense for one of the top radio stations in the country to come down here and air our music to the rest of the country, we thank them for that,” he said.

Debra Ncube of Greenfield, who gave a shout out during the live broadcast, said she was thrilled to have come out on radio and thanked Star FM.

“I’m so pleased to be on radio in my hometown something that I wouldn’t have thought possible before so this is a great initiative by Star FM. The station has come to us and we’ll engage them. Since they’re opening up to us we’ll also open up to them,” he said.

During the live broadcast, Star FM presenters gave away mealie meal to those in the audience who answered questions correctly.

Star FM Programmes Manager Comfort Mbofana said they were in partnership with Red Seal for the broadcast in the city and they would be travelling with the Red Seal team giving away prizes for the remainder of the week.

“We’ll be broadcasting from various locations like Entumbane Shopping Mall and Sekusile in Nkulumane. We’ve entered into a partnership with Red Seal and we’ll be giving away mealie meal to the audiences while broadcasting. We’re also receiving music from artists in Bulawayo which is good because we’ve an opportunity to build a music database for this city,” he said.

Mbofana added that the station was also looking to increase its listenership in Bulawayo.

Djembe Monks artiste Emmanuel Nkomo, who was also part of the crowd, applauded Star FM for the move.

“What the Star FM team has done is excellent and it’s something that we’ve long waited for because not every artiste is able to travel to Harare to submit their music.

“We would like to see more of this from other radio stations as well and as an artiste I say radio to the people,” he said.
