THE Indian government will soon construct a state-of-the-art hospital in Bulawayo to cater for war veterans, it has been revealed.
The health institution will be run by war veterans through a Trust to be formed as part of economically empowering the ex-freedom fighters as part of the promises made by President Mugabe when he created a ministry to look into their welfare.
Minister of Welfares Services for War Veterans, War Collaborators, Political Detainees and Restrictees Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa last week said India and his ministry will construct three hospitals in the country and about $500 million is earmarked for the project.
“The Indians want to build three hospitals with war veterans that is $500 million we are talking about. One of the flagship hospitals will be built here in Bulawayo and the other in Harare. The third one we will see where to put it,” Cde Mutsvangwa said.
He said the Government wanted to change the image of war veterans from a basket case to businesspeople.
President Mugabe pronounced that he was going to look into the welfare of the former freedom fighters and ensure that they are economically empowered.
