THE finals of the 2025 Sterling International Pairs Golf Tournament will now take place on 27 September, two weeks later than originally scheduled.
Tournament co-ordinator Shameon Mazvarira confirmed the change, stating that the National Final will still be held at Mulota Golf Club in Mhondoro-Ngezi.
“The date for the finals has been moved to the 27th of September. We are still looking forward to hosting a very successful event. Everything is progressing well, and the qualifiers are nearing completion.
“Clubs have done an excellent job hosting qualifiers, and we can’t wait to see who will represent Zimbabwe at the World Championships,” said Mazvarira.
This year’s tournament is being held under the theme “Tee off for travel, discover the beauty of Zimbabwe,” and is set to be the biggest edition yet. Clubs across the country have been actively staging qualifiers, with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) backing the event as part of efforts to promote domestic sports tourism in line with Government strategy.
So far, 26 qualifiers have been completed, attracting 1 280 golfers nationwide. Among those through are 2022 champions Tinashe Tom and Vumindaba Moyo of Norton Golf Club, who topped their qualifier with 47 points, ahead of Tobias Kaitano and Kundai Mahembe, who scored 41 points.
“Winning our club qualifier again feels incredible. We’re looking forward to representing Norton at the National Final and hopefully returning to the World Final,” said Tom.
Competition was equally intense in Bulawayo. At Country Club, Kenny Moyo and Thabani Ndlovu secured their place with 45 points, edging out Clarence Sibanda and Mark Ndlovu. Former ZGA president Martin Chikwana was also in the field, underscoring the prestige of the event.
Bulawayo Golf Club delivered another standout performance, with the pairing of Kudzi Chombo and Kudzai Kamhuka carding 49 points. They were followed by Chris Bannister and Chippy Chapener on 46.
The tournament continues to attract golfers of all ages, including juniors as young as nine. Participation has increased by 20 percent compared to last year, reflecting the growing popularity of the event, now in its fifth edition.
Winners at the Mulota final will go on to represent Zimbabwe at the World Final in October, to be held at the prestigious Gary Player Golf Course in Sun City, South Africa. With the countdown now underway, qualifiers are fine-tuning their game for what promises to be a thrilling finale.
