FC PLATINUM missed a golden chance to end their winless run against Chapungu at Ascot after failing to punish the hosts in a drab Midlands derby yesterday.
While Chapungu were uninspiring, FC Platinum – who have never won at Chapungu – were disjointed.
Walter Musona, Wisdom Mutasa (on trials in Slovakia), Marshal Mudehwe, Wellington Kamudyariwa and Emmanuel Mandiranga were all missing from Norman Mapeza’s FC Platinum side.
And Chapungu gaffer, John Nyikadzino was content with the point.
“I am happy with a point considering that FC Platinum is a quality side,” he said.
Mapeza also welcomed the point saying: “It’s good to come away with a result away from home especially when you are missing the services of seven of your regular players. It’s always difficult to play your normal game in derbies like these because the youngsters know each other well,” said Mapeza.
With no goalmouth action to talk about, the only meaningful chances came from set pieces and Chapungu’s best attempt was a free-kick from former Dynamos striker Allan Tavarwisa in the 74th minute, but that effort missed the target by inches.
The platinum miners had their moments, too, and on one of the occasions Philemon Mudenha had acres of space in the box but contrived to pull off a weak shot which Roy Mazingi, the Chapungu goalie, easily dealt with.
