ZIMBABWE sprinters take to the track on Saturday morning and afternoon hoping to benefit from the competition at the AGN T and F League Track and Field Championships in Pretoria.
Methembe Tshuma, Thandazani Ndlovu, Busani Ndlovu, Tafadzwa Nduna, Tadiwanashe Mawarire, Namatai Ngwerume, Dellroy Reppoh and Tendai Jonasi.
With all protocols for times to be considered by World Athletics for qualifiers for major events globally to be in place, the sprinters will be hoping to run good times.
The targets are 20.95 seconds in the 200m and 10.20 seconds in the 100 that would be enough for one to qualify for this year’s African Championships.
First on the track at 11.15AM will be Thandazani and Tshuma in the 200m in which they have been drawn to run with Lessedi Omondi of Botswana,
Edwin Mahlakola of the University of Limpopo, Kabo Rankwe of the University of Botswana Athletics Club and Amogelang Mositse of the Sefako Makgatho University.
Busani and Mawarire will run in the next heat while much later Nduna, Ngwerume, Reppoh and Mawarire will take to the track.
In the afternoon, shortly after 3PM Tshuma and Jonasi will make their bids in the 100m.
National coach Phakamile Lisimati is keeping his fingers crossed as he continues to assess his athletes ahead of key African races, the African Cjhampionships in Ghana this May and next month’s World Relys in Botswana.
