Strongman Jonathan ‘Mr Mat’ Muvingi came second and won the silver medal at the just ended 20th Africa Senior Kurash Championship which was held in Eswatini.

Mr Mat proved his mettle in the under +100kgs senior category while his colleague Junior Mapanda won a bronze medal after coming number 4.

He believes he could have been at the ongoing Olympics.

“I am not happy because I don’t deserve that ndaida gold but due to lack of sponsorship and support, we are failing to reach our targets.

“It is my appeal that the corporate world come to our rescue so that we do our best.

“In 2028 I will be at the Olympics.

“We have potential but we only need support. Considering the little resources I have managed to scoop a silver and imagine if we had more support.

“We were two of us and the coach,” he said.

The countries which participated included Benin, Eswatini, Congo Brazzaville, Congo DRC, South Africa, Egypt, Cameroon, Zimbabwe and Mozambique with a total 92 athletes across eight weight divisions.
