A 22-year-old student from Great Zimbabwe University has allegedly tragically taken her own life after learning that her boyfriend was a married man.
People remember Lillian Rusike, who was interning at Masvingo Rural District Council, as a deeply religious and God-fearing individual.
Mitchell Gumbo, a close friend of Lillian, described her as a devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church at St. Theresa Rujeko, where she actively participated in church activities and prayer programs.
“Lillian was a consistent churchgoer and part of the praise and worship team. She was involved with a man named Farai, and she loved him deeply,” Gumbo said.
Lillian’s strong religious beliefs led her to feel that Farai, who had taken her virginity, was meant to be her husband.
“This made her very attached to him, and her life revolved around him. He promised her marriage and made plans to introduce her to his family,” Gumbo added.
The situation took a devastating turn when Lillian discovered that Farai was already married and had two children.
“When she found out, it shattered her beliefs, and she thought her life was over,” Gumbo explained.
A coworker indicated that Farai’s wife may have further complicated the situation by confronting Lillian at her workplace.
“I woke up to messages and calls about her passing. I learned she committed suicide after finding out about Farai’s marriage. Her aunt discovered her, and she left no note behind.
“I’m devastated; she had a bright future ahead,” Gumbo shared, visibly upset.
Lillian’s family held a church service at her aunt’s home in Mucheke, where she grew up. They laid her to rest at Mhandamabwe Business Centre in Chivhu, leaving the community in mourning for a young life cut tragically short.-H-metro
