Students inspired by icon of empowerment

On behalf of the students in Iran, I would like to thank you Your Excellency. This is something that came as a surprise. Like (Foreign Affairs) Minister (Simbarashe) Mumbengegwi said, it is a rare opportunity to meet your Head of State like this.

So it came as a surprise and we are glad that we got to shake hands with our Head of State.

It’s an inspiration not just to shake hands with you, but as an icon of black empowerment in Africa, we are quite inspired to be the builders of Africa’s future.

If you look at today’s world, even here in Iran, it seems the perception of the black man is that he is not able to develop anything.

And I’m glad that in Zimbabwe we have the opportunity to prove that the black man can do something.

I can’t express the joy I have right now. It’s a rare opportunity and we are quite honoured.

We cannot thank you enough.

The above was transcribed by Sunday Mail Editor Mabasa Sasa from Marima’s vote of thanks after President Mugabe had dinner with Zimbabwean students in Iran at Ambassador Nicholas Kitikiti’s residence in Tehran on August 7, 2017.
