TWO people, one of them a student at the Midlands State University (MSU), died on Tuesday when a vehicle they were travelling in collided head-on with another along the Gweru-Kwekwe Road, police con- firmed.

The accident, which was also witnessed by Redcliff Mayor, Councillor Fred Kapuya, occurred at the Redcliff turn-off, about 15 kilometres outside Kwekwe. The deceased MSU student has been identified as Blessing Chigumira. He was on his way to Harare for a funeral. Police are yet to identify the other deceased person.

MSU Students’ Representative Committee spokesperson Brightman Marowa said the university was saddened by the tragic death of Chigumira. In a statement, Marowa said the untimely death of Chigumira robbed the family and the university of a promising young man.

“It is with great sadness that I announce the untimely death of one of our students, Blessing Chigumira, who died in a car accident on Tuesday on his way to Harare to attend a funeral. They had been camping at the institution together with the choir group rehearsing for the forthcoming graduation ceremony,” he said.

“On behalf of the entire Midlands State University community and as students in particular, l want to extend my deepest condolences to Chigumira’s family.”
