TWENTY students from various departments at the Christian College of Southern Africa (CCOSA) students on Friday took part in a cleaning exercise in Harare.
The students were drawn from the Journalism, Business Administration and Information Technology departments.
Some staff members also took part in the exercise.
Vanessa Mutirori, a journalism a student, said more young people should take part in the national clean-up campaigns.
“Young people should take part in these clean-up campaigns so as to keep our city clean and contribute positively towards a litter free environment”, said Mutirori.
Tinotenda Chapatarongo another student said that it is the responsibility of young people to help keep the country cleqn.
“The clean-up campaign for me resonates with the call to keep the country clean, therefore it is up to us to keep our country clean,” she said.
Prince Masuka a student also said that it was his civic responsibility to partake in the clean-up.
“The clean-up campaign is a good initiative, the reason why we students took part in this initiative is because we want to motivate other youths to also participate in civic responsibility programmes,” said Prince.

CCOSA Senior lecturer Tafadzwa Sandi said keeping the environment clean is part of the culture.
“It is part of our culture to always keep our environment as clean as possible and that is why we decided to take part in the national duty of ensuring that our streets are clean.
“We were happy with the progress we made by cleaning up the Africa Unity Square.
“It was important for CCOSA students to participate in the clean-up campaign which gave them an opportunity to contribute to society as well as create visibility for the college.”
Mlondolozi Ndlovu a media lecturer said, the clean-up campaign provided a platform for students to appreciate the importance of a clean city.
“The clean-up campaign was very relevant for providing a platform for students to appreciate the importance of a clean city, and not only that it’s also an opportunity for CCOSA to meet with the world because we are saying that CCOSA is not just an institution that focuses on providing education but it wants to create a whole person.
Kumbirai Tarusarira said that young people, should cultivate a culture of environmental stewardship.
“The clean-up exercise also served as a reminder of the importance of environmental conservation.
“A clean environment is essential for our well-being, and it is our responsibility to ensure that we preserve it for future generations.
