THE 2015 Zimbabwe Film and Television Awards (ZFTA) saw a Mutare-based artiste scooping an award in the Outstanding Female Actress category at a colourful ceremony held in Avondale last Friday.
Barbara Vhengedza, who rose to stardom after her appearance on Zimbabwean soap Studio 263, starring as Vimbai Jari walked away with the award at the well attended function.
She also stars in a feature film directed by Ben Mahaka called Bitter Pill, which explores family problems that arise when husbands leave their wives to look for greener pastures in the diaspora.
Speaking to The Weekender, the humble and reserved actress, said winning the award means the hard work she put in during her time in the film industry had not gone unnoticed.
“It is every artist’s dream to be acknowledged and appreciated.
“For me, this award shows that my hard work did not go in vain. I am excited about the achievement and I am overwhelmed with gratitude to the organisers of the event and to God for helping me shine in the competitive industry.
“I feel humbled to have received such an award. This is nothing short of God’s favour, grace and love. I hope this can be a symbol to all who have dreams but feel discouraged. God will make a way,” she said.
Apart from actively participating in the country’s film industry, Vhengedza also has a music album against her name, called Spirit, Emotions and Tears, popularly known for the song, Ngainaye.
ZFTA was organised by the Zimbabwe International Film Festival Trust with an objective to advance film and television broadcasting in the country.
