“Where there is no vision the people perish,” Proverbs 29:18. A vision keeps people progressing, productive and prospering. A vision is the dream we have for our future and we do everything walking towards it. I keep asking myself what our vision for Africa is.
I am not very sure but I want to believe that one huge reason Africa is stagnating is the lack of a compelling vision or dream that can bring the whole continent into a place of unity and one mindedness. The late Libyan President Gaddafi once tried and had a vision of a United States of Africa. I am not sure what the buy in was by other African leaders on this. It seems like it was just a Gaddafi dream and it ended the moment he died. What is our dream as Africa? What kind of Africa do we want? What kind of Africa are we pulling all our resources together to build? Is the current Africa what we really want?
Beloved, I do not want to sound too negative but the current Africa is not what I dream of. The current Africa is too desperate, corrupt, limiting, scandalous and directionless. I do not see where we are going and I do not hear those up there telling us where we are headed as a continent. I refuse to sink with the rest. Something somewhere must happen. Africa must be saved.
We need a dream or a vision to keep us enthused towards the future. President Gaddafi had one. Congratulations. Maybe the founders of nationalism had one and it got lost and hijacked. But what is ours now? I see that the European Union have their dream about the Europe they want and they are enjoying their union. Maybe? America has theirs though they are changing.
Africa cannot survive beyond this phase without a dream. The Bible tells us that Jacob had a vision. This is a man who was in a bad state. He was a conman and a fugitive. He was pursued by his brother for robbing him but he had a dream. It is the dream that kept him hoping for the future. It was his dream that kept him alive. It was his dream that turned him around to the Israel of God. Africa is in a mess now. Africa is pursued by many who want to kill her and destroy her. Many have looted her, raped her and disabled her. If Africa has no dream, she cannot rise from where her enemies have put her. It is only our dream that can inspire us and move on. Even when cheated by Laban, Jacob still had a dream. He saw the future. He refused to settle for Leah, who was never his choice.
Maybe you are asking yourself why I am using Jacob while talking about Africa. Jacob was loved by God despite his shortcomings. He was God’s chosen for manifesting a nation God wanted. Africa is also God’s beloved if you did not know.
Africa could be in a mess now but God has a great agenda for Africa. Africa is chosen for a time such as this. Africa will carry the Cross Message to the world. Africa is God’s end time Church that will manifest the rule of God in the whole earth. Make no mistake about this. But Africa needs a dream. We need to dream and what is the dream?
We have a grouping of apostles in the continent called Council of Apostles in Africa. Personally, I expect these guys to chat the way forward. I expect them to inspire us towards dreaming as a continent. Apostles of God, where is Africa headed to?
Beloved, our pain as a continent should not be allowed to continue beyond this. We want back our children scattered all over the world. We want back our sons and daughters enslaved by the world. We want back our fathers. We want back our children whose childhood has been betrayed by our enemies. Only our dream can give us this hope. What is our dream, Africa?
The AU has created an African passport. Congratulations. Is their dream just for an African passport? There is nothing wrong with that but I thought that was not a starting point. We start at the level of our common dream. As long as our economics and our politics remain in this state, the passport is irrelevant. I have it to do what and to go where and what for? Maybe we need to start with our economies, maybe we need to start with our politics or maybe we need to start with a dream. At some point Africa must be helped to dream. At some point my generation must help Africa dream. The future of this continent is in the hands of this generation.
I have a dream beloved. Like Martin Luther Junior, I have a dream for Africa. It is because I understand the power of vision.
How on earth can we lead nations without visions? How many nations of Africa have national visions? Where are the nations of Africa headed to? In Zimbabwe, we once had a “Zimbabwe we want document”, a vision document that can turn this nation around in 100 days if we all wanted to. Africa can only dream when her nations dream. If we do not dream now and start working on our dream now, I wonder what our children’s children will find in Africa. There is need for a mindset shifting in this continent. I make the call once more, it must be now. Africa must be saved.
I cannot stop dreaming and thinking about Africa. I sat in a bus from Harare to Bulawayo last Monday and there I was crying for Africa. Maybe those who saw my tears in the bus were wondering what was going on. I kept asking myself this question, for how long will we continue in this? Africa needs a turn around. I dream of a united, God fearing and wealth-creating Africa.
I dream of an Africa that is progressive and according young people space to grow, blossom and discover their God-given gifts. I dream of an Africa that values human life. I dream of an Africa that respects her citizens and gives them value. I dream of an Africa that dominates the world through acts of love and kindness. I dream of an Africa that loves itself. I think I have a dream.
What is our African Dream? Our elders, can you help us please. Our Apostles, can you lead us please. Africa must be saved.
