The Zimbabwe Youth Council is inviting the public to nominate outstanding young people in different sectors for the National Youth Colours awards that are scheduled for July 24 at the Harare International Conference Centre.
Members of the arts fraternity, sports, media, entrepreneurs, academics, youth ambassadors, tourism and hospitality ambassadors, corporate professionals, youth developers and those excelling in science and technology will battle for supremacy at the awards.
Zimbabwe Youth Council director Livingstone Dzikira said the awards will focus on various categories that are relevant to young people.
“The colours will focus on various categories that are relevant to young people’s development. We are looking for young people below the age of 35 who are excelling exceptionally well in their fields of effort, to the extent of having lifted the national flag or brought undoubted recognition of our country in either regional or international platforms,” he said.
He said conferring the Colours is part of ZYC’s constitution.
“These colours are statutory awards that are created under the Zimbabwe Youth Council Act Chapter 25:19. In terms of Section 22 sub section 1, the Youth Council will pass a resolution requesting the Head of State to confer national youth colours to particular individuals and organisations,” he said.
The ZYC has partnered with AB Communications to organise the awards ceremony.
“We have partnered with AB Communications who brought along ZiFm and Mighty Movies to assist us in organising this event.
“We appeal to all citizens, in and outside the country to contribute
to this process by nominating individuals or organisations they think have done well for the country over the past years.
“Nominations begin today (began on Monday) until June 30 2015,” he said.
AB Communications CEO, Susan Makore said they are happy to celebrate young people.
“AB Communications is greatly honoured to work with ZYC in celebrating young achievers in Zimbabwe. We have worked with the youth council on a number of projects and we thank them for their continuing trust in us,” she said.
The National Youth Colours are based purely on the efforts and hard work young people have put in for their country.
A team of adjudicators and auditors will preside over the nomination and verification processes.
