adminJOHANNESBURG. – Kaizer Chiefs attacking talisman Khama Billiat will undoubtedly be flooded with transfer options outside the DStv Premiership if the Zimbabwean’s contract is not renewed at the end of June.
KickOff can reliably report that Billiat remains a wanted man with several teams keeping a close eye on his Kaizer Chiefs contract negotiations with his current deal expiring at the end of June.
Billiat will next month move into the last six months of his current contract and would then be within his rights to sign a pre-contract agreement elsewhere.
The diminutive attacker is in his fifth season at Naturena with his stay being viewed by some perhaps as underwhelming in comparison to his Mamelodi Sundowns form.
Though he remains the all-time top scorer (97 goals) among current players in DStv Premiership he has had a difficult start to the current season and has failed to score in 11 games.
Billiant last scored in April in the 2-1 defeat to Golden Arrows and has now gone on to play 16 games for Chiefs without scoring.
That has again given his critics reason to sharpen their swords considering that he is amongst the top earners at Naturena.
However, for all his struggles this season and the uncertainty over the extension of his deal at Chiefs this website has been told that Billiat still commands respect in the Arab world.
The 32-year-old was previously sought by Egyptian heavyweights Zamalek and still enjoys considerable interest in North Africa and the Middle East.
With the Middle East a destination that attracts players in their 30s that would be where what he earns at Chiefs is matched.
Amr Hosni, an agent based in Egypt tells KickOff.com of what could work for Billiat.
“He is not as popular and in demand as he was when both Zamalek and Al Ahly wanted him a few years ago.
“He is still a good player for sure, but the issue is that he is now over 30, his value has dropped and will not be attractive to Al Ahly and Zamalek
“The interest from Egypt could be any other team with a good budget but not Al Ahly and Zamalek.
“He can still go to UAE and Saudi Arabia because the money will still be good there,” says Hosni. – KickOff
