A HARARE woman has successfully petitioned the court to garnish her former husband’s salary as he’s not paying maintenance on time.

The matter came to light at the Harare Civil Court where Mercy Isaac accused her ex-husband, Jerry Hodehera, of neglecting their children by delaying paying maintenance.

“Your Worship, I want Jerry’s salary to be garnished because he is delaying payments and pays in small amounts which can’t cater for anything.

“It’s better if the money comes directly to my account to avoid all this.

“He should understand that we have to pay fees and rentals on time as well as buy food for our children,” she said.

Jerry defended his delay, saying his salary comes late and he has other debts to pay.

“The delay in maintenance is not my fault. We both work at the Harare City Council and she knows that our salaries come late.

“If possible, l would like to request for a downward variation because at the end of the day I’m left with nothing in my account as l also have bills to pay,” he said.

Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini accepted the application for garnishing Jerry’s salary.
