A BLACK out and crowd disturbances could not stop Sulumani Chimbetu and his Orchestra Dendera Kings from giving a sterling performance at the Simon Chimbetu commemorations show. The show was held on Saturday at Bulawayo’s Club Vegas 999.The show was almost dampened by the poor organisation by the club’s management as there was a black out thrice.
Security was inadequate and each time a fight broke out in the bar, Sulu was forced to stop playing to allow the few security guards to bring order in the house.
However, after the electricity problem was fixed, Sulu gave a breathtaking performance.
He belted old Dendera songs done by his father Simon thereby sending fans down memory lane.
Sulu proved that he has come of age when he sang his father’s songs.
He played such songs as Kuya Mamera, Saina, Wandisiya Sei, Boterekwa and Dzandipedza Mafuta much to the delight of the fans. He at times mixed his father’s song and his own songs but it was his father’s songs that won the day save for his Sean Timba song (Batai Munhu).
After the show Sulu said he appreciated the support from Bulawayo fans and promised to come back as soon as possible for another show.
“I have a strong fan base in Bulawayo. I thank you for the support. We feel at home whenever we visit Bulawayo, we always love it and that is why we will soon return because fans love our music. This is our second home,” he said.
Fans were happy with his performance and they agreed that his beat is getting better with each visit.
