Summer 7s rugby back

ALL is set for the inaugural edition of the Exide Sevens Rugby Series to be staged at Belgravia Sports Club tomorrow, with 12 teams from around Harare expected to take part.

The tournament will be sponsored by Chloride Zimbabwe and will have the teams put in two pools for the round robin phase.

Teams expected to turn up include Old Georgians, Domboshava, Black Rhinos, Old Hararians, Mufakose, Mbare Academy and Seke, among others.

Craig Connah, tournament coordinator, said they were looking forward to a competitive tournament which is going to be an annual event on the rugby calendar.

“We are going to have a sevens rugby series at Belgravia Sports Club starting this Saturday and the final will be held on December 15 at the same venue.

“We had a good response from the clubs which we invited and we look forward to a successful competition. The response has been fantastic as 86% confirmed invitation to come and take part.

“There will be two pools A and B which will see some knock-outs with each team expected to get some cash prizes. We have decided to sponsor rugby as it is one of the fastest growing sport in the country and we hope to unveil talent at the same time.

“We trust this will be a year on year and long term partnership with Chloride Zimbabwe managing to support sports in several aspect as their part of social responsibility,” Connah said.
