AFRO-jazz outfit Sunrise Band has entered mainstream music industry by releasing a six-track debut album titled Munhu munhu.

The 2011 Chibuku Road to Fame provincial winners spent close to two years working on the album which was recorded and produced by Olin Anderson.

In an interview, the band led by veteran guitarist Joseph Makureya, said they would commence doing live shows in areas outside Mutare to market the new project. For Makureya who spent more than half of his career as a session musician said it was a dream come true.

“I am happy that my dream of releasing an album came to fruition and I would like to thank my fans for the patience. It was not easy considering that I lost my brother and pillar of strength Paul Makureya three years ago. We have managed to move on and we hope to make a mark in the music industry,” he said.

He added that he would officially launch the album next month before he releases a second album, a dedication to Paul who succumbed to high blood pressure three years ago.

The band has been playing their new tracks every Saturday at Amber Hotel in front of sizeable crowd particularly Afro-jazz lovers.

Songs on the album are title track, Munhu, Yambiro, Guhwa, Promise, Ndaiti kutamba and Ndakatomirira.

The star-studied Sunrise Band comprises former Assegai Crew band member Toti Makureya, Gilbert Ndala and Wallace Kasa on backing vocals, Robert Chagora and Olin Anderson on keyboards and Joseph Makureya on rhythm and lead guitars.
