RECENTLY appointed How Mine head coach Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu is relishing the challenge that comes with leading a Premiership side after he was handed the mantle at the gold miners.
Super, who was previously assistant to Kelvin Kaindu at Chikurupati, replaces the Zambian who opted against renewing his contract.
How Mine chairman Paul MacAndrew revealed they have given Ndlovu a two-year contract.
Ndlovu said he believed it was the right time for him to take over after having been Kaindu’s assistant at a number of clubs.
“I think I have amassed the requisite experience needed over the years and I have learnt a lot from Kaindu during the time I was his assistant and I will use those lessons effectively.
“It is an opportunity that I have been waiting for but I believe it is not a coincidence that I got it now but God realised I am ripe and ready for the role,” he said.
Super said he will not rest on his laurels but will take the chance with both hands.
He said he now had the task of proving himself after the How Mine executive showed belief in him.
Ndlovu said next year’s target would be finishing in the top eight but it was critical to bring results as early as possible.
“There might be a loss and a draw in football but when you go into a team, whether as a coach, assistant or player, the only thing you want is to win and that it is upmost on my mind.
“I have to give confidence to the executive and fans through continuously churning out the results because if I don’t they will start asking questions whether they made the right decision to give me the top post,” he said.
Super said he will stick with most of the players from last season’s squad with only one or two additions.
MacAndrew said after investing in Ndlovu to acquire the Caf A badge there was no way they could look for another coach to take over.
He said they believe he will be able to steer the ship to better times.
“We invested in Beke during the time he acquired the Caf A badge, so he has the requisite qualifications to lead the team and we believe he has been getting the required experience during his time as assistant to Kaindu.
“We have firm belief in his capabilities and we will support him as he takes over,” said MacAndrew.
He said they would be reviewing the contract after the two year period and is hopeful of better times under Ndlovu.
MacAndrew said with Super being eligible for the top post they wanted to be fair with him and not sideline him.
He revealed they are yet to find an assistant coach but they have already secured the services of goalkeepers coach, Tembo Chuma, as they renewed his contract.
Ndlovu and Chuma had been linked with moves to Highlanders under Madinda Ndlovu but the confirmation of penning the contracts puts paid to the rumours.
