A SUPERVISOR with N Richards’ Rusape branch allegedly stole over $10 000 from the wholesale group.
Taurai Sithole (31) of Vengere who is represented by Mr Taurai Khupe of Chigadza and Associates was not asked to plead when he appeared before provincial magistrate, Mr Shingi Mutiro who adjourned the matter to March 9 for trial.
Public prosecutor, Mr Tafara Chawatama, told the court that Sithole misled his company that he had banked all the money, yet he was tampering with the deposit slips and converted some of it to his own use. “On January 9, 2015, Lameck Chitate, a senior executive at N Richards Group was doing banking reconciliation for Rusape branch when he discovered an anomaly on the bank deposit slip 008057 dated January 13, 2015 in comparison with a bank statement of the same date.
“The bank deposit slip which had been forwarded to N Richards headquarters revealed that $15 500 had been deposited, while statements showed only $5 500,” he said.
Mr Chawatama further told the court that Sithole who had powers to reverse a transaction if a client returns goods bought from the wholesale misled his company that goods worth $752, 72 had been returned, yet this had not happened.
“On August 25, 2014 Sithole was on duty and misrepresented to the company that a customer wanted to return goods bought for $752,72, but in actual fact there was no reversal.
“Sithole then took the equivalent value and converted it to his own use. The total prejudice is $10 752, 72 and nothing was recovered,” he said.
