ZIMBABWE volleyball giants, Support Unit, continued with their nightmarish outing at the ongoing Men’s Africa Volleyball Club Championship after losing their fourth consecutive match at the hands of Uganda’s KAVC at Masaken in Tunisia on Wednesday.
Support Unit, who are making a maiden appearance at the continental showpiece, were edged 2-3 (22-25, 25-15, 27-25, 22-25, 7-15) by the East Africans in a pool D encounter effectively blowing any chance of making it to the knockout stage.
The policemen started brightly and looked on course for their first win of the tourney with a 2-1 lead before capitulating and allowing the opponent to rally back and post a 2-3 victory.
Support Unit coach Itsalang Abu Basutu said his charges were likely paying the price for the high demands of the game at the continental stage.
“Everything went wrong, I can’t explain how we almost win it, because almost doesn’t count,” said Basutu who said his team did not “fight enough” in the encounter.
Support Unit will now meet a plucky Kenyan Prisons side as they seek to end their outing with a win that will give them a better foundation for the future.
Basutu said his side will take to the field against the Kenyans with a competitive mind and saying there was nothing like a dead rubber.
“It’s just the same as any game, it has its own pressure also.
The Zimbabweans have suffered identical 0-3 losses to Setif of Algeria, Somoha of Egypt and Ahly Beni Ghazi of Libya.
