A SUSPECTED armed robber was fatally stabbed by unknown men on Monday after he tried to rob a woman who was on her way home from a local bar in Chinhoyi.

The deceased, identified as Phatisani Sibanda (23) of Zhombe, had stabbed Ropafadzo Samkole in the stomach after attempting to rob her around 4.30am.

Samkole, who is recovering at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, was in the company of her two friends.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Mashonaland West spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, confirmed the incident.

He said officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Chinhoyi were now investigating the murder and attempted murder cases.

“She (Samkole) screamed for help and two men came to her rescue. They attacked Sibanda and left him lying on the ground bleeding profusely, leading to his death,” said Inspector Kohwera.

Samkole, he said, was rushed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital in a critical condition.

A police report was made at ZRP Chemagamba by Emilia Tagarira of 183A, Mpata Section, in the same town.

Police from Chemagamba attended the scene together with CID Chinhoyi.

“Police observed that the deceased’s body had two deep stab wounds on the left thigh and a cut on the head,” he said.

“The deceased was holding a broken empty beer bottle and a pouch for a Colombian knife was also found in his trousers,” he added.

The body of the deceased was conveyed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

Insp Kohwera appealed to anyone with information on the identity of the two men who attacked Sibanda to approach the nearest Police station.

He also urged members of the public to desist from taking the law into their own hands and to respect the sanctity of life
