Svosve misses iconic jazz star Mugona

Entertainment Reporter

JABAVU Drive leader Phillip Svosve says Zim jazz will never be the same without bass guitarist, Nicholas Mugona.

Mugona died early this year after suffering a mild stroke.

Although a replacement in the band has been found, the veteran saxophonist reckons the industry lost a genius.

“We can’t talk of jazz and forget to mention Mugona, who was an icon in his own right.

“We will always remember him and celebrate his life.

“We dearly miss him a lot as one of us,” he said.

Tonight, the granddaddies of Zim jazz, look set to celebrate Mugona’s legacy, with a show at Bar Rouge.

“We will remember our good guy Mugona on Friday (tonight) with a show at Bar Rouge where we used to perform with him.

“We built a strong fan base together at the same venue and each time I perform there, I see his shadow hovering in the auditorium.

“We urge our fans to show up in numbers so that we celebrate his legacy together,” he added.

Bar Rouge entertainment manager, Edith Chimanikere confirmed the show.

“We are glad to announce that we are hosting the granddaddies of Zim jazz at our venue on Friday (tonight) during our popular slot dubbed Bosses’ Night Affair.

“The slot is now popular with well-to-do people who enjoy mature music.

“This has always been our wish to ensure that we give fans value for their money and what more can you ask when Jabavu Drive is in the house?” she said.
