THE late Nick Swanapoel, who died last week in Johannesburg, South Africa, has been described as a farmer who was dedicated to the development of the nation.
Swanapoel was 76.
Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Marian Chombo, paid tribute to the farmer.
“As a province, we want to pay our condolences for the sterling work he did and the role he played since 2000 in the land redistribution issue,” said Chombo.
“He was a reconciliatory person, through him, we found peace.
“You know there was animosity and he was able to bridge that gap.
“Because of the role he played, it made a mark and we were able to move forward.
“He is gone but his works will live on forever.”
She assured the Swanapoel family that her office was there to assist them.
Swanapoel’s brother, Steve, said he brought back his late brother’s ashes from South Africa on Monday.
“We are going to hold his memorial on Friday,” said Steve, who said the family was overwhelmed by condolence messages from all over the world.
