Sweswe reflects on future after parting ways with Sheasham

AFTER parting ways with Zifa Central Region Divison One club Sheasham last week, experienced coach Lizwe Sweswe has expressed his readiness to consider new offers and return to the dugout.

Sweswe’s departure from Sheasham was a mutual decision, following a challenging spell that saw the team finishing fourth in the league, falling short of its promotion goal.

During his tenure which began in 2023, Sweswe had bolstered his squad with seasoned players like Rahman Kutsanzira, Ayanda Ncube, Khulekani Dube, and Kim Joe Sibanda. Despite this, the team failed to secure a return to the elite league.

Sweswe reflected on his time at Sheasham, saying: “I’ve always believed that developing young talent is the foundation of a successful team. I’m proud of the work I did in creating structures that will benefit the club in the future. Developing young players isn’t a quick fix, but it’s a strategy that pays dividends in the long run.

“I’m not one to shy away from challenges, and I remain excited about what lies ahead. Whether it’s helping a team reach its potential or building it from the ground up, that’s where my passion lies.”

Under Sweswe’s guidance, Sheasham also focused on developing its junior structures, inviting young players aged 13-17 to join the team’s youth ranks.

With a coaching journey that includes stints at Tsholotsho FC, FC Platinum, and Bulawayo Chiefs, Sweswe has a proven track record.

Notably, he made history with Tsholotsho FC, guiding the team to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and becoming the first club from a rural area in independent Zimbabwe to achieve this feat.

As Sweswe looks to the future, he remains optimistic and eager to continue his coaching career, contributing to the development of Zimbabwean football.
