ZIMBABWE cricket chief selector Tatenda Taibu says it’s not the time for the game’s leaders to bury their heads in the sand after the Chevrons crashed to another big defeat against India yesterday.
Coach Makhaya Ntini revealed he wanted to hang himself on the nearest tomato tree after watching his team’s pathetic show against India.
But Taibu feels they have to battle on.
The Chevrons crashed to a 0-3 whitewash loss, including a 10-wicket defeat yesterday.
“I have been through a lot in my life that this series does not even make me put a sad face,” said Taibu, one of the changes the game’s leaders hope will, in the long term, turn the team’s fortunes around.
“You will understand better when my autobiography comes out. “I believe I can put a few bricks to help Zimbabwe out of this situation.
“We have started digging the foundation already. When the building is being constructed, the foundation is dug and the cement is being put.
“The people passing by say that it’s an ugly scene when they look at it but the beauty of the building can be seen once the finishing touch is put.
“The plan for rebuilding the team is safe and secure in my mind. I have concern for my cricket not only in my mind but in heart too.”
Zimbabwe team made five changes for the final ODI.
“It is simple. We are looking for a group of players that will raise their hands to get into the ship which will bring the Zimbabwe team up and a chance has to be given to all players available,” said Taibu, who is currently in London.
“We want to get a stage where 80% players pick themselves into the team. “I would have loved to be there but because of my prior commitments I can’t move out from here. India has always had a special place in my heart and i will visit India when the opportunity arises.”
