Takadanaishe Zimusi finds wings

CHAPUNGU Queens have started getting full value from defender Takadanaishe Assah Zimusi, who has helped them win all of their last seven games in the Premier Netball League.

The Gems star missed several games as she formalised her high-profile transfer from Harare City in the first half of the season.

But she is not showing any signs of lack of game time. She is flying.

The 28-year-old was in super-charged form over the weekend, inspiring Chapungu Queens to two wins in as many games during one of the three PNL bubbles at Manyame Air Base.

She was the towering figure across the games, with her power-play and slick movements engineering a commanding 80-18 win over Buffaloes before putting Harare District to the cleaners in a similar fashion via a 78-18 victory.

She was deservedly named Player of the Bubble.

And for someone who missed almost the first half of the term, she is performing wonders and the Gems coach Ropafadzo Mutsauki wouldn’t be happier, especially ahead of the upcoming Celtic Cup in the UK.

“I am happy to be in this form,” said Zimusi.

“I spent most of the first half of the season on the sidelines as I was just transferring from Harare City to Chapungu.

“I am settling really well in my new club and I am happy with the support I am getting from my teammates and every member of the technical team.”

With the two wins, Chapungu Queens moved to second on the log with 44 points on the board, two behind leaders ZDF Queens.

Meanwhile, the PNL together with Mashonaland East Province will co-host the Cancer Awareness Tournament in Marondera next month.

In a statement, PNL spokesperson Innocent Ndiya said: “The Premier Netball League (PNL) will together with Mashonaland East Province co-host the Cancer Awareness Tournament in Marondera on October 4.

“Over 20 teams, including PNL teams, corporate teams, and social clubs will be participating in the event, which aims to raise awareness about cancer and promote community engagement.

“Let’s unite to fight against cancer. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected.”
