AMBITIOUS Southern Region Division One side, Talen Vision last weekend engaged in a health awareness initiative that saw both the elderly and young getting screened for different ailments at the club’s health care centre that is located in Filabusi.
Previously known as Trukumb Clinic, the facility is now named Talen Vision Health Care Centre.
Trukumb Mining, which is under the directorship of Khumbulani Nkomo, bankrolls Talen Vision Football Club.
“The health care facility, which was previously known as Trukumb Clinic, is now open to the general members of the public. We are happy to say that in its opening to the general members of the public, we engaged in a health awareness campaign.
“We have different projects, this health awareness initiative is all in an effort to give a helping hand as we had people being tested for tuberculosis among other different ailments. In the process patients got free medication. Consultation was also for free. We got a massive response and we will be moving to different areas that include Nkankezi, Silalatshani, Theleka, Amazon, Skuta and Mahole,” said Talen Vision administrator Hloniphani Ngwenya.
The health awareness event was spiced up by two football matches that saw Talen Vision’s reserve side edge Killarney FC (Kent) 1-0 courtesy of a Mthokozisi Matshazi strike.
Thereafter Talen Vision’s first team played a one all draw against Jordan Sinnott. Tanaka Nyoni scored for the former while Wilfred Nyathi found the target for the latter.
“We are still working on our combinations. Yes, we won the first game but the boys did not play well. They kept on complaining about the playing surface. It’s unfortunate that in the second game, we conceded through a penalty and we found wanting in terms of positioning. It wasn’t the best performance but we are getting ready to compete,” said Talen Vision assistant coach Saul Ndlovu.
The two matches were watched by scores of football lovers at a field that is located at Filabusi Business Centre.
Vision’s Slovakian head coach Miroslav Nemec is still awaiting his work permit.
Nemec was appointed Talen Vision head coach in March and in his current absence owing to his yet to be sorted paperwork the team is under the guidance of his assistants Ndlovu and Golding Dube.
Nemec, Dube and Ndlovu beat ex-Premier Soccer League coach Philani Mabhena, former Manica Diamonds coach Johannes Nhumwa and ex Bantu Rovers and Black Mambas player Fortune “Fokoza” Ncube to assume their new roles at the Trukumb Mining sponsored side. – @Fungai Muderere
