Tanzania Air Force Commander Major-General Joseph Kapwani has commended Zimbabweans for remaining resolute and firmly safeguarding the country’s sovereignty despite the suffering brought on by illegal Western sanctions.
He made the remarks when he paid a courtesy call on Air Force of Zimbabwe Commander Air Marshal Perrence Shiri at AFZ headquarters in Harare yesterday.
“If it was for another country, we could be talking of a different story altogether,” he said.
Maj-Gen Kapwani, who is the chair of the Sadc Standing Aviation Committee, said he was in Zimbabwe to share experiences and strengthen relations.
“We want to learn more from the Air Force of Zimbabwe in order to enhance our capabilities,” he said. Air Marshal Shiri said the visit by the Tanzanian delegation was important in cementing relations within the Sadc region.
“It is important that as countries within the Sadc region we join hands and share experiences such that during disasters we are not found wanting,” he said.
He said such exchanges provided a platform to explore areas of co-operation.
“We feel greatly honoured by the visit and it shows that we co-exist well with other countries within the region.”
The five-member Tanzanian delegation is on a five-day working visit during which they will tour Manyame and Thornhill air bases and visit Victoria Falls.
Tanzania and Zimbabwe enjoy strong bilateral relations dating back to the days of the liberation struggle.
